I loaded the software in the test format on my Vista 64 computer and when I started it the client software crashed. Anyone know what the issue is.

We have only tested it on 32 Bit. If you could post the error message, we will see if there is a change we can make to allow it to work on 64 Bit. The error window will usually have a Details button. Please post the entire text from that.

Thanks,
jon

Please look in your Windows/SysWOW64 folder for the following files:
msvcp71.dll
msvcr71.dll

If you can't find them in that folder, you can search your hard drive for them and copy them to that location.  These are Microsoft files that often can get accidentally removed during updates or with AV tools. Let me know once you have these 2 files located in that folder if it solves the problem.

We are looking into this issue. The reason it is having problems on 64 Bit Windows now is because the database adapter used only supports 32 bit.  We will post updates to this thread as we determine how to get it running correctly on 64 bit.

I also have similar issue on a XP Pro 64-bit system.

The following files were in the WOW64 directory:  msvcp50.dll,  msvcp60.dll, and msvcv71.dll.

This issue has been around for some time (see other posts).  Have all your computer purchases been confined to 32-bit systems to work around this?  I needed the additional memory available in a 64-bit.system.  Your software appears to be a great a fit to my design needs (I am a single designer using Siemens NX 7 for a young startup company).

Do you have any additional thoughts?

As both my desktop and laptop are 64-bit sytems, I have continued an effort to find a way to use GoPDM.

Would setting up a virtual computer such as Sun's VirtualBox having a XP 32-bit OS installed work?

I installed VirtualBox and XP 32 OS, but I've had a few problems getting the right driver installed and don't plan to invest further time unless you feel the prospects are good.  Without the proper configuration, once in the virtual computer I cannot see the other physical drives in the local host which limits usefullnes as CAD files are on drive SATA drive d:.

What are your thoughts about this approach?

Since this is free software, we have not had any time or resources to focus on a resolution for this. I am fairly confident that you should be able to use XP Mode that is available free in Win 7 for the GoPDM Client as a workaround.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

The server can run on 64-bit. Download the 64-bit version from www.firebirdsql.org. Then follow the manual installation instructions here:
http://www.gopdm.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2:installing-the-server&catid=2:installation&Itemid=4

You will want to install firebird from the installer to make a copy of the appropropriate files, but then uninstall and replace it with the 64-bit version.

We have just released a new client version that is running on Windows 7 64-bit.

You do, however, need to make 1 small change to let it run correctly. We will look into resolving this, but for the time being, it should cause no issues. After installation, you need to do one of the following:

1. Right click on GoPDM.exe in the installation folder and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab, checkmark 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and select 'Windows XP (Service Pack 3)'

2. Alternatively, instead of double clicking on the shortcut, right click and select 'Run as Administrator'
